A class link starts every student on the same task with one link. Post it in Google Classroom or Teams, or put its QR code on the board. Each student who opens it gets their own copy of the starter, with your task shown at the top of their feature tree and a Hand in button ready for when they finish.
There are no accounts to set up. Everything is packed into the link itself, after the #, and that part of a link is never sent to a website, so nothing is uploaded.
Make a class link
- Click Export, then Make a class link. (In Learn, every tutorial and sample also has a Class link button.)
- Choose what students start from: a blank design, a tutorial, a sample design, or this design as your own starter file.
- Type the class and the task name. Add a due date and short instructions if you like.
- Click Copy link and paste it into Google Classroom or Teams, or click Show on the board so students can scan the QR code with a tablet or phone.
What students see
The starter opens as the student's own design, with a task card above the feature tree showing the task, the class, the due date and your instructions. The task stays attached to that design. If a student opens the link again in the same browser, SchoolCAD carries on with the design they already started instead of making a new one.
Choosing the right starter
| Start from | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Blank design | Students are designing from scratch, such as a design brief with open choices. |
| Tutorial | You want every student to follow the same steps, with checks and Show me for anyone who gets stuck. |
| Sample | Students should explore and modify a finished design, for example by changing its parameters. |
| Your design | You've modelled a starter, such as fixed parts, a template or a half-finished design, and students complete it. |
Tip
Links that start from a tutorial or sample are short, so their QR codes scan easily from the back of the room. A link with your own design inside is longer: post that one in Classroom or Teams rather than scanning it.
Handy extras
- Download QR code saves the code as a picture for slides or a worksheet.
- Try it as a student opens the link in a new tab so you can check exactly what students will get before you post it.
When the work comes back
Students click Hand in on the task card and paste the hand-in link (or attach the file) where you set the task. You then open the hand-ins in the Marking view. See Collect and mark student work without accounts.
